The Beauty Breakdown

A brief Q&A about my favorite beauty products and where I get inspiration for new hair, makeup, and skincare looks.

1. What beauty blogs and magazines do you read regularly?

My go-to beauty blogs and magazines are as follows: The Beauty Of It Is, Cult of Pretty, Elle, Nylon (RIP to print edition, but love the website), and Allure

2. What beauty brand or influencers do you like following on Instagram and why?

It’s so hard to choose, there are so many brands and mavens out there! My top three are:

Milk Makeup (@milkmakeup), because they have a cool-meets-eco product lineup that’s 100 percent vegan, paraben-free, and cruelty free. (Their Kush assortment is AMAZING.)

Uche Natori (@uchjn): Based in the U.K, Natori has creative makeup tutorials and is advocating for more diversity in the beauty industry. I love influencers who are all about making everyone feel beautiful.

Youth To The People (@youthtothepeople): Clean beauty? Yes please. I remember going into Sephora one day and testing one of Youth To The People’s Hydrate and Glow Oils and falling in love. As a brand, they emphasize beauty, self-care, and wellness, so I can get on board with that.

3. What do you think is the biggest trend in the beauty world right now?

Clean and eco-friendly products are growing in popularity right now. With the climate crisis and the push for more sustainable living, people want to know what’s in their hair, makeup, and skincare products and how these items impact the environment. Botanical cleansers, cannabis-infused mascara, and other “green” beauty items are hitting the market, as the need to minimize our carbon footprint continues.

4. What are three beauty products you can’t live without and one on your current wishlist?

OSEA Essential Hydrating Oil: I tend to have normal to dry skin, so this helps keep my face hydrated when it’s extremely hot or cold outside throughout the year.

Farmacy Dew It All Eye Cream: Dark circles are a pain, but this eye cream makes me look less tired at the end of the day. I dab a bit under my eyes before bed and I wake up looking extra dewy and refreshed.

Frank Body Glow Mask: If you want a model-like complexion, this little mask does wonders. In five minutes (yes, five minutes), my face looks illuminated and I smell like a coffee cupcake, so can’t complain there.

And the dream product: Rouge Pur Couture YSL x Zoe Kravitz Lipstick: Sultry reds look great on everyone, and I’m loving the Wolf’s Red - Satin Finish lipstick from this limited edition collaboration. It works great for a night out and Zoe Kravitz is gorgeous…

5. What makes you passionate about or interested in writing branded content?

Branded content is more than an ad, it’s changing the way women shop and find the products they love. As someone who also loves a good bargain and scouting new items, having the right digital resource is key, especially with social media and e-commerce! I always think about my readers first and show them what’s trending in a friendly format and welcome feedback.

6. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would it be and why?

Alexa Chung! I’ve been a fan of her beauty and style since the ‘00s. She has this effortless way of putting together makeup and an outfit, but adding a little edge on top of it. She teamed up with Eyeko on liquid eyeliner and is killing it when it comes to the cat eye look. Plus, I would love to stay updated on her fashion line, which features versatile, chic looks for any wardrobe. She’s always ahead of the game when it comes to trends.
